| News Bytes OSHA Focus on Printing Industry There has recently been an increase in OSHA inspections due to the agency’s efforts to reduce amputations at commercial printing firms in standard industrial classification (SIC) code 2752. We encourage members to ensure compliance with OSHA’s Lockout/Tagout Procedures and machinery safeguarding regulations. You will also want to make sure you have properly completed OSHA recordkeeping paperwork (OSHA Form 300)for 2008 and have the Log and Summary (OSHA forms 300/300A) for the last five years (2003-2007) readily available for review. The inspections we have seen so far have all begun with a review of your recordkeeping paperwork followed by in depth review of lockout/tagout and machine guarding, but have eventually included both “suggestions” and violations of a comprehensive nature not limited to amputation prevention. The time to prepare for an inspection is before they show up at the receptionist desk; call your PIA staff for assistance today at 800.788.2040, or call B.J. Irvin at 214-630-8871 ext. 203. For forms 300/300A, in an Excel format, and recordkeeping instructions go to the following OSHA webpage here. |
