275 currently enrolled (up from 95 in 1995). Very few graduates. Most (50 to 60%) students are already employed and take specific courses to up-grade their skills. The students in the program that are new to the industry find jobs in many related fields: multimedia, desktop publishing, technical communications, commercial art, printing, etc. Mr. Stewart says the enthusiasm his program has seen (34% growth over last year) is largely due to interest in Desktop Publishing and Digital Imaging courses.

160 currently enrolled in the programs. 30% of the current students are graduates of four year programs that have entered this program to get the hands-on skills training. 100% placement -- some with printers, some with agencies, etc. An advantage this program has over others is "the program is based on a strong understanding of offset lithography". Equipment used: Macs, Imagesetter, Matchprint, and Multilith w/T-head.

30 students are currently enrolled. 95 to 100% placement in the industry. Like many other post-secondary schools with graphics programs, Eastfield is updating their curriculum and course offerings. They plan to offer more electronic prepress courses focusing on hands-on use of a variety of software applications for the graphic arts.

The program allows students to graduate with a well-rounded background in printing along with training in computer estimating, customer service and quality control. The school also offers 22 specific graphic arts classes for those wanting more technical skills training.

25 majors and 19 minors currently enrolled. Program started in September 1993. First graduate in May 1996. The program provides students with a broad exposure to both conventional and digital aspects of printing. Dr. Waite says once a student understands how to shrink and spread through contacting, lay mechanical screens or cut rubylith masks, then they can better understand how software applications accomplish these tasks.
